Port of Melbourne handles over 280,000 TEUs in March

The Port of Melbourne has released its trade update for March 2024, revealing a significant increase in total container throughput compared to March 2023, totalling 280,900 TEUs.

Full container imports (excluding those from Bass Strait) saw a rise in volumes compared to the previous year, with furniture, domestic appliances, metal manufactures, and paperboard all surpassing last year’s figures.

Similarly, full container exports (excluding those from Bass Strait) experienced an increase in volumes in March 2024 compared to the prior year, with hay, chaff & fodder, lentils, and barley all exceeding last year’s volumes.

Additionally, total empty container movements showed an uptick in March 2024 compared to the previous year’s volumes.
